OCALA - A Bahamian national living in Florida as a lawful permanent resident has been charged with casting an illegal ballot in the 2024 federal general election, federal prosecutors announced, in a case that drew investigators from three separate agencies.

Terrance Patrick Evans, 37, faces one count of voting by an alien after allegedly casting a ballot in the 2024 federal general election while knowing he was not a U.S. citizen. If convicted, Evans faces a maximum penalty of up to one year in federal prison.

“Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until proven guilty,” United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe noted in the announcement.

The case was investigated jointly by Homeland Security Investigations, the Florida Department of State’s Office of Election Crimes, and the Citrus County Supervisor of Elections - a multi-agency effort that reflects Florida’s standing enforcement infrastructure for election law violations. Special Assistant United States Attorney Jerry M. Harre is prosecuting the case in the Middle District of Florida.

Evans was charged by information, a formal charging document that does not require a grand jury indictment and is often used when a defendant is expected to enter a plea. The charge marks one of the first federal prosecutions tied to the 2024 general election cycle in Florida.
