TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed a mid-season bye week, three consecutive home games to open the season and no back-to-back road trips in their 2026 NFL schedule, released Thursday night as part of a league-wide slate of 272 games that includes a record nine international contests.
The Buccaneers have known their 17 opponents since the fourth day of January but learned the order and timing only now, more than four months later. The NFL’s schedule makers reportedly used cloud-based computers to sort through “a quadrillion” potential combinations across the 272-game slate, which also features two Wednesday games and three Christmas broadcasts.
For the first time since 1991 and only the third time in franchise history — a span of 35 years — Tampa Bay will not play consecutive road games in a single season. The Bucs travel to Chicago for a Sunday night game in Week Nine, enjoy their bye in Week 10 and then resume at Detroit in Week 11, splitting what would otherwise be back-to-back road contests.
The post-bye stretch may be the most demanding on the schedule. After facing Jared Goff and the Lions in Detroit, Tampa Bay hosts the defending NFC South champion Panthers on Monday Night Football in a game that could carry major division implications. Week 13 brings Justin Herbert and the Chargers to Tampa, followed by a road trip to Baltimore to face dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson in what could be the only game played in wintry conditions.
The early-season home stand in Weeks Two through Four brings Cleveland, Minnesota and Green Bay — three cold-weather franchises — to Tampa. A Week Five Thursday Night Football matchup in Dallas gives the team a mini-bye heading into pivotal NFC South contests and a Sunday Night Football clash with the Bears in Week Nine.
The Buccaneers open the regular season on the road in Cincinnati in Week One before settling into that three-game home stretch at Raymond James Stadium.
