TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed rookie wide receiver Matthew Henry to their 91-man camp roster Tuesday, adding depth at a position thinned by injuries to three key pass catchers during the latter portion of training camp.
Henry (6-1, 180) started all 13 games for Western Kentucky in 2025, recording 55 catches for 888 yards and six touchdowns en route to All-Conference USA second-team honors. Across 40 collegiate games at Western Kentucky, Western Illinois and Livingstone College, he totaled 185 receptions for 2,939 yards and 20 touchdowns. He went undrafted in April and participated in rookie minicamps with the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers but had not appeared on an NFL roster until now.
The signing comes as the Buccaneers practice without wideouts Emeka Egbuka (toe), Jalen McMillan (knee) and Tez Johnson (groin). Veteran starter Chris Godwin Jr. was also held out of Saturday’s preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs, a game in which David Sills V and rookie Ted Hurst III started at receiver.
To clear a roster spot, Tampa Bay placed rookie defensive lineman Deshawn McKnight on injured reserve. McKnight, who joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona in May, suffered a hamstring injury during his preseason debut against the Chiefs on Saturday, leaving the game in the second half.
The Buccaneers have one preseason game remaining, Friday in Jacksonville, and are not expected to play starters or key regulars in that contest.
