TAMPA - Two players fighting for roster roles made their cases in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns, and the Week 3 depth chart reflects it: wide receiver Tez Johnson and outside linebacker David Walker both earned expanded opportunities heading into the next game.

Johnson, listed as the third wide receiver behind Emeka Egbuka, logged 19 snaps and drew four targets against Cleveland. Only one connected, but it was the biggest play of the game - a 49-yard catch in the fourth quarter that set up a go-ahead field goal. Johnson also retained his punt return duties, running back two kicks for 14 yards.

Walker’s emergence on defense was equally notable. The second-year outside linebacker had played exclusively on special teams in the season opener but recorded one of the Buccaneers’ two sacks against the Browns while limited to just nine defensive snaps. Head Coach Todd Bowles rotated his edge rushers heavily, giving 37 snaps to Yaya Diaby, 35 to Rueben Bain Jr., 21 to Al-Quadin Muhammad and 15 to Anthony Nelson.

In the backfield, Bucky Irving continued to dominate the touch count despite Bowles describing Kenny Gainwell as the “1B” option. Irving played 51 snaps to Gainwell’s 23, accumulated 21 touches to Gainwell’s five, produced 90 yards from scrimmage and averaged 5.2 yards per carry. Gainwell managed five touches on 23 snaps.

Tight end Cade Otton was the team’s most reliable receiver, catching five passes for 38 yards on 58 of a possible 65 offensive snaps. The Buccaneers’ other three tight ends - Payne Durham, Ko Kieft and Bauer Sharp - combined for just seven offensive snaps. Chris Godwin and Egbuka each played 86% of offensive snaps, with Ted Hurst on the field for 74%.

Rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter but returned to finish with a team-high 11 tackles across 48 defensive snaps. Cornerback Benjamin Morrison started opposite Zyon McCollum with Jacob Parrish sidelined by a back injury, contributing seven tackles and one pass defensed.

The Buccaneers host their Week 3 opponent at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
