A 32-year-old Cape Cod man faces aggravated battery charges after allegedly stabbing his friend during a fight over women at a Miami Beach bachelor party. Olajuwon Shawn Dickerson of Marstons Mills was arrested March 15 around 2:40 a.m. at 1200 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach and charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. During an initial court appearance in Florida, he was ordered held without bond.
Officers responding to the reported stabbing found Dickerson bleeding profusely from a puncture wound to his left arm and Brian Gordon with a stab wound to his left abdomen area. Both men were taken to Jackson Ryder trauma center for treatment. Witnesses told police that Dickerson and Gordon were friends sharing an Airbnb in Miami Gardens with two other people for the bachelor party.
The altercation began when the group met several women at bars on Ocean Drive, causing Gordon to become agitated that the women were only paying attention to Dickerson, according to police reports. Gordon and one friend left the bar to retrieve their black GMC Yukon with Florida plates to pick up the rest of the group. An argument ensued in the 1200 block of Ocean Drive about the women going in the car with them, and the situation escalated when Dickerson approached Gordon, who was in the driver’s seat.
Gordon told police that Dickerson was telling him to get out of the car, but he refused because he had paid for the vehicle. Gordon said he knew Dickerson was carrying a knife throughout the night and that security guards at bars would remove it and return it when they left. Gordon reported that he suddenly realized he had been stabbed and began defending himself in fear of being stabbed again. A witness said Dickerson handed him a folding knife covered in blood while others attempted to stop Dickerson’s bleeding.
Dickerson told law enforcement that he remembered leaving a bar with Gordon and a friend but had no recollection of anything that happened afterward. He denied having an argument with Gordon and allegedly told police he never had a knife. However, police said both men’s injuries were consistent with the knife found at the scene. Gordon was medically cleared and released from the hospital, while Dickerson remained in treatment.
Dickerson’s initial court appearance was held over Zoom, where he appeared virtually from a hospital bed. The judge ordered him held with no bond after prosecutors filed a motion for pre-trial detention due to the nature of the offense. If Dickerson obtains bond, he must avoid any contact with Gordon, including staying 500 feet away and having no direct or indirect contact through writing, third parties, or social media. A public defender will be meeting with Dickerson, though attorney information was not immediately available.
