MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick, the team announced, adding a young passer who led the NCAA in passing yards during his final college season.
McCord, a sixth-round selection (181st overall) by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 NFL Draft, spent his rookie season on the practice squad before being traded to Green Bay. The deal with Miami is pending a physical.
The 22-4 career starter compiled 8,555 passing yards and 61 touchdowns against 20 interceptions across 37 career college games with 26 starts, completing 661-of-998 attempts at a 66.2 percent clip between Ohio State (2021-23) and Syracuse (2024).
McCord’s lone season at Syracuse was a breakout. He led the nation with 4,779 passing yards in 2024 and set several program records, including single-season passing yards (4,779), single-season touchdown passes (34), passing yards per game (367.6) and consecutive passes without an interception (234). He also tied the school record for most 300-yard passing games in a career with 12. The performance earned him second-team All-ACC honors in 2024, a year after he received third-team All-Big Ten recognition at Ohio State in 2023.
The trade gives the Dolphins a developmental arm at a minimal cost — a sixth-round pick two drafts away. McCord will compete for a roster spot as the team prepares for final preseason cuts.
