Florida City police arrested Grether Leidy Guadarramas Pena, 41, on Wednesday on felony child abuse charges after she allegedly cut a family member with a knife upon discovering gay messages on his computer. The incident came to light when the boy told his teacher what had happened several days earlier, according to the Florida City Police Department arrest report.

According to the arrest report, the boy told detectives that his brother first discovered the Discord messages and content, then “took the computer away and gave it” to another family member. That family member “made him stand facing the wall” until Guadarramas arrived home Saturday afternoon, police said.

“Once (Guadarramas) arrived, she observed ‘gay’ things on his Discord account,” a Florida City Police Department officer wrote in the report. “She then grabbed him by the arm and took him into the kitchen.” The boy told police that Guadarramas “grabbed a knife and held his arm against the counter” and called for the other family member to hold his hand down.

Police said the other family member “assisted” but pushed Guadarramas away once he realized she was cutting the child. The family member is not facing charges in the incident. Authorities said Guadarramas then cut the boy’s hair with scissors after the knife attack.

Both Guadarramas and the other family member “refused to speak” about the incident when questioned by police Wednesday, according to the arrest report. The boy’s age was not specified in the police documentation, though authorities confirmed he was a minor family member living in the household.

A Miami-Dade judge found probable cause for the felony child abuse charge during Guadarramas’ court appearance Thursday morning. The judge reset her bond hearing for Thursday afternoon, keeping her detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center pending the afternoon proceedings.

As of Thursday afternoon, Guadarramas remained jailed at the Miami-Dade County facility. The Florida City Police Department has not released additional details about the investigation or whether additional charges may be filed in connection with the incident.
