PENSACOLA — A federal grand jury has indicted a former postal employee on charges of stealing mail, U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin for the Northern District of Florida announced.
Evan Aldric Harris, 29, of Evergreen, Alabama, was charged with theft of mail by a postal employee. Harris appeared for his arraignment in federal court before United States Magistrate Judge Hope Thai Cannon in Pensacola. If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service-Office of Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Alicia H. Forbes is prosecuting the case in the Northern District of Florida.
The indictment does not detail the volume or type of mail allegedly stolen, nor the time period of the alleged theft. Harris’s residence in Evergreen, Alabama, is roughly 80 miles north of Pensacola, where the case is being tried.
“An indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a violation of federal criminal law and is not evidence of guilt,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated. “All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.”
Jury trial is scheduled for June 22, 2026, before United States District Court Judge M. Casey Rodgers in Pensacola.
