COLUMBUS, Ohio - Inter Miami CF, riding a four-match unbeaten run against Columbus and sitting second in the Eastern Conference with 46 points, travels to ScottsMiracle-Gro Field on Sunday to face a Columbus Crew side that has won just seven of 26 games this MLS regular season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Inter Miami enters the road match at 12W-4L-10D after earning a point last Sunday with a 2-2 draw at home against San Diego FC. “Goals from captain Leo Messi and striker Luis Suárez secured the point at Nu Stadium,” the club said in its match preview.
Messi, the reigning MLS Landon Donovan MVP Award and Golden Boot presented by Audi winner, leads both Inter Miami and the league in goals with 20 this regular season. He is also tied for the league lead in assists with 13.
Sunday’s match will be the 13th all-time meeting between the clubs. “Inter Miami leads the series with seven wins to three for Columbus Crew, while two other matchups resulted in a draw,” the club noted. The last meeting came in early August in Miami, a 2-2 draw in MLS regular season play.
A potential new face could appear for Inter Miami this weekend. Brazilian winger Riquelme Fillipi, 19, has completed the necessary work documentation and is cleared to make his Inter Miami debut after signing with the club at the start of the month.
Columbus arrives at 7W-14L-5D with 26 points, sitting 13th in the Eastern Conference table. The Crew enter on a positive note, however, having earned a 2-0 road victory against CF Montréal last weekend.
Sunday’s 7 p.m. ET kickoff at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Columbus, Ohio marks one of Inter Miami’s final road tests of the MLS regular season.
