FORT LAUDERDALE — Inter Miami CF squandered a first-half lead as CF Monterrey scored twice after the break to claim a 1-2 victory at Nu Stadium in the club’s second Leagues Cup 2026 Phase One matchup.
Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, receiving a pass from Casemiro in the final third before unleashing a right-footed hit from long range to the bottom-left corner. The lead held through halftime thanks to goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo, who made a key save in the first minute of stoppage time to deny Orbelín Pineda from the center of the box.
Monterrey equalized quickly after the restart, with Hugo Cuypers scoring in the 47th minute. Diego Rossi then sealed the result in the 90th minute to complete the comeback. Monterrey held 55% possession to Inter Miami’s 45% and outshot the home side 15-12, while Inter Miami committed 11 fouls to Monterrey’s 16.
Inter Miami head coach started Ian Fray, Facundo Mura, Micael and Noah Allen across the back four, with De Paul, Yannick Bright, Casemiro and Telasco Segovia in midfield. Forward Lovend’s Delinois and Daniel Pinter led the attack. Delinois, a forward who usually plays for the club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Inter Miami II, made his debut for the first team. He nearly opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a triple chance — his shot from the left end of the box was saved by Monterrey’s goalkeeper, before a left-footed hit from Allen and Delinois’ second attempt were blocked by the opposition’s backline.
Ríos Novo finished with four saves on the night, while Monterrey’s goalkeeper recorded two. Inter Miami held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks despite the loss.
Inter Miami will next host Club León in its third and final Leagues Cup 2026 Phase One matchup at Nu Stadium.
