FORT LAUDERDALE — Inter Miami CF’s Leagues Cup 2026 campaign ended with a 2-3 loss to Club León at Nu Stadium, but not before academy product Daniel Pinter etched his name into club history with the first goal ever scored and assisted by a Homegrown player.
Pinter broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute with a first-time, left-footed strike from the center of the box, capitalizing on a delivery from defender Ian Fray on the right. The milestone marked the first time in club history a goal has been scored and assisted by a Homegrown player. Midfielder Yannick Bright added Inter Miami’s second in the 54th minute, finishing with his left foot from the center of the box following a corner kick.
The two-goal effort was not enough. Club León equalized in the 50th minute after Pinter’s opener, then leveled again in the 61st minute after Bright’s strike, before taking the decisive lead in the 83rd minute to close out the match and Inter Miami’s third and final Phase One contest.
Inter Miami dominated possession at 57.8% compared to Club León’s 42.2% and outshot the Mexican side 23-14. The hosts also held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo made four saves, while Club León’s keeper recorded six.
Head coach Inter Miami started Ríos Novo in goal behind a back four of Fray, Gonzalo Luján, Micael and Noah Allen. Midfielders Rodrigo De Paul, Bright, Casemiro and Telasco Segovia anchored the middle of the park, with Pinter and Lovend’s Delinois leading the attack. Despite committing 10 fouls to Club León’s 14, Inter Miami could not contain the visitors’ late surge.
Inter Miami returns to MLS regular season action Saturday, Aug. 15, traveling to face Nashville SC at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, with kickoff set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
