FORT LAUDERDALE - Captain Leo Messi and striker Luis Suárez each scored twice Saturday night as Inter Miami CF dismantled D.C. United 4-0 at Nu Stadium, extending the club’s unbeaten run against the Washington side to seven matches and pushing Inter Miami’s point total to 49 on the MLS regular season.
Suárez opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, redirecting a cross from Sergio Reguilón off a Germán Berterame header to finish left-footed from the center of the box for his 14th goal of the season. He doubled the lead in the 39th minute on a headed assist from Berterame - his seventh assist of the campaign - to bring his regular-season tally to 15. Suárez also finished the night with nine assists on the season.
Messi took over in the second half, striking in the 47th minute for his 22nd regular-season goal after Suárez played him through on the left side of the box. Messi sealed the result in the 60th minute with a solo effort, receiving a pass from Rodrigo De Paul, dribbling past two defenders and slotting left-footed into the bottom-right corner for his 23rd goal of the season - extending his lead in the race for the 2026 MLS Golden Boot. The assist was De Paul’s 13th of the regular season.
Berterame finished with two assists on the night, while goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair posted a clean sheet, making two saves including a standout stop in the 16th minute to deny D.C. United’s Tai Baribo. Inter Miami controlled 61.2% of possession, attempted 16 shots to D.C.’s 14, and forced D.C. goalkeeper into five saves compared to two for St. Clair.
Inter Miami, now 13W-5L-10D, has not lost to D.C. United in seven consecutive meetings, going 5-0-2 in that stretch. Inter Miami next hosts New York City FC on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Nu Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
