MIAMI — Inter Miami CF signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, a five-time UEFA Champions League winner with 21 career trophies, after his departure from Manchester United, the club announced Wednesday.
Casemiro, 34, is under contract with the reigning MLS Cup champions through the 2027 season with an option until June 2029. Inter Miami also acquired Casemiro’s Discover Priority from the LA Galaxy. The former Real Madrid cornerstone arrives as a free agent after 14 years in European football with Real Madrid, FC Porto and Manchester United, compiling 73 goals and 61 assists in 663 career club appearances.
“What motivates me the most, and I think this is true for every player, is winning and continuing to grow,” Casemiro said. “I’m incredibly grateful, and I can’t wait to get started so I can repay that trust — not only during the 90 minutes on matchday, but every day in training as well.”
Managing owner Jorge Mas framed the signing as a statement of the club’s trajectory. “Casemiro’s arrival reflects the vision and ambition that define Inter Miami,” Mas said. “We never settle. We’re always looking to grow, improve, and raise our standards every season.” Co-owner David Beckham echoed the sentiment: “I’m very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. He is a person and a player that I have admired for a long time. He is a winner who has achieved so much in the game.”
Casemiro brings 91 caps and 10 goals for Brazil, including a 2019 Copa América title. He started all five of Brazil’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, contributing one goal and one assist. At Real Madrid he won five Champions League crowns and three LaLiga titles before a three-season stint at Manchester United.
In Miami, Casemiro joins a midfield alongside Argentine star Rodrigo De Paul and a roster built around Designated Players Lionel Messi and Germán Berterame. He was a former El Clásico rival of Messi and Luis Suárez, and a teammate of Sergio Reguilón at both Real Madrid and Manchester United — the Spanish left back joined Inter Miami last winter. Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, two Barcelona legends who helped Inter Miami win MLS Cup 2025, have since retired.
“I’ve always believed that the day I lose that hunger and that ambition in life is the day it’s time to stop playing,” Casemiro said. “I want to keep winning titles, which is the most important thing. I’m here to win titles. I believe the great players are the ones who win. That is my main reason for being here.”
Inter Miami sit second in the Eastern Conference with 31 points on a 9W-2L-4D record following the World Cup break. Guillermo Hoyos is serving as head coach after Javier Mascherano’s exit in mid-April. The club opened Nu Stadium in early April, giving the Herons a permanent home in Miami proper as they pursue a second consecutive MLS Cup title.
