FORT LAUDERDALE — Inter Miami CF heads to Stade Saputo in Montreal on Saturday riding a five-game winning streak and fresh off the marquee signing of Brazilian international midfielder Casemiro, the five-time UEFA Champions League winner who joined the club as a free agent this week.
Casemiro’s contract runs through the conclusion of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season with an extension option until June 2029. He joined the team’s roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. His arrival bolsters a squad already sitting second in the Eastern Conference standings with a 10-2-4 record and 34 points through 16 matches.
Inter Miami’s most recent result — a 3-2 home victory over Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday — featured a milestone performance from striker Luis Suárez, who scored twice to reach 100 appearances and 50 goals for the club. Academy product Preston Plambeck added his first MLS goal and first for the club’s first team to seal the result at Chase Stadium.
Reigning MLS Landon Donovan MVP Award and Golden Boot presented by Audi winner Leo Messi leads Inter Miami with 12 goals this regular season. Midfielder Telasco Segovia and Messi are tied as the team’s top assist providers with eight each.
Saturday’s match is the 13th all-time meeting between the clubs. Inter Miami holds a 5-6-1 record against CF Montréal but won both regular season matchups last year, including a 1-4 road victory at Stade Saputo on July 7. CF Montréal enters the contest 13th in the Eastern Conference with four wins, nine losses and three draws for 15 points after falling 1-0 at Nashville SC on Wednesday. Forward Prince Owusu leads Montréal with nine goals and five assists in 15 appearances.
