FORT LAUDERDALE — Inter Miami CF goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair will be between the posts Friday when co-host Canada opens its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Group B opener at Toronto Stadium, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET.
The match marks Canada’s third appearance at the FIFA World Cup after previous participations at Mexico 1986 and Qatar 2022. In both prior tournaments, the Canadians were eliminated in the group stage after suffering three defeats, leaving the nation still chasing its first-ever World Cup victory.
St. Clair earned a roster spot for a second consecutive World Cup after also being part of the squad at Qatar 2022. The Inter Miami keeper made his senior international debut in a Concacaf World Cup qualifying match in June 2021, playing the full 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet in a 7-0 victory over Aruba. He has since earned 19 total caps for Canada, including appearances at the 2024 Copa América, two Concacaf Gold Cup tournaments and the 2024-25 Concacaf Nations League.
Friday’s contest will be the first-ever meeting between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the senior international level. The European side, which secured its place at the tournament through the UEFA playoffs by defeating Italy, will be making its second World Cup appearance after Brazil 2014. Bosnia and Herzegovina features experienced veterans including forward Edin Džeko and defender Sead Kolašinac.
Canada’s Group B schedule continues after Friday’s opener, with the host nation backed by home crowds for the first time in World Cup history. The match will air live on FOX, with Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo and Peacock.
