JACKSONVILLE - Jaguars head coach Coen said right tackle Cole Van Lanen will be a game-time decision when Jacksonville opens its 2026 regular season against the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Field on Sunday at 1 p.m., injecting uncertainty into the offensive line of the defending AFC South champions.
Van Lanen, projected to start at right tackle when he is 100 percent physically, practiced on a limited basis all three days this week after spending much of training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list following a Week 18 knee injury last season. Walker Little is expected to start at right tackle if Van Lanen cannot go. Left tackle Anton Harrison missed practice with a foot injury and was listed without game status Friday.
The Jaguars (13-4 in 2025) host a Browns team that went 5-12 last season. Coen, entering his second year as head coach after his January 2025 hiring, said the team’s preparation has been sharp despite the transition from training camp to a regular-season work week.
“I thought the guys went through the process of the work week the right way,” Coen said. “I thought they did a nice job of working through the work week and kind of getting back into that flow. It’s a little bit of a different flow than training camp, and obviously OTAs and all that. There’s just a lot more detail that goes into each day, a lot more true focus.”
Coen made clear he expects the same physical identity that defined last season’s 26-10 Week 1 victory over the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Stadium — the first game of his tenure.
“You have to know going into it that it may not always be perfect, but it does have to be violent, and it does have to be physical,” Coen said. “I went back and watched the Carolina game again, and by no means was it perfect, but you can make up for a lot when you play the game violently and you play the game as the aggressor.”
Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (thumb) was listed without status on Friday’s final injury report, meaning he is expected to be available. Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. (hip) was listed as questionable. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at EverBank Field.
