LONDON - Kicker Cam Little hit a 57-yard field goal as time expired at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Sunday, lifting the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 19-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 5 NFL game that Head Coach Liam Coen called a “weird-kind-of-vibe game” - one of the most unlikely endings in franchise history.
The winning kick came seconds after veteran running back Ameer Abdullah returned a kickoff 53 yards following Philadelphia kicker Jake Elliott’s 48-yard field goal with :08 remaining that had given the Eagles a 17-16 lead. Abdullah, playing for his seventh NFL team in his 12th season, had the presence of mind to go down with :01 left on the clock, giving Little just enough time to attempt the winner. Nose tackle DaVon Hamilton, filling in for injured long snapper Ross Matiscik, delivered a high snap that punter and holder Logan Cooke caught and placed cleanly for Little’s kick.
“Did we deserve to win? Who knows?” Coen said. “I have to watch the tape, but I’m proud of this group.”
Little, who grew up a soccer player and soccer fan, called the game-winner his biggest career moment - notable given that he holds the two longest field goals in NFL history. The victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a venue legendary in soccer, added to the moment’s significance for the kicker, who ran jubilantly around the field after the kick.
The win did not come cleanly. Jacksonville committed 13 penalties for 100 yards - the second consecutive week with 13 penalties, after a 13-for-125-yard performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4. Rookie edge rusher Bryan Thomas Jr. was ejected on the opening kickoff alongside Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. for unsportsmanlike conduct, with two additional offsetting penalties called on the same play. The Jaguars also went 0-for-3 converting red-zone trips to touchdowns and turned the ball over twice on fourth down despite having the ball at the Eagles’ 1-yard line.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence found wide receiver Parker Washington for a 27-yard touchdown with 3:20 remaining to give Jacksonville a 16-14 lead, only for Elliott’s field goal to seemingly seal the Eagles’ comeback. The Eagles, who won the Super Bowl following the 2024 season, finished with 232 total yards, including a 62-yard first-half touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to Darius Cooper. Jacksonville’s defense held Philadelphia to 22 rushing yards on 18 carries and just three second-half points.
“That team’s pretty darned good in their own right,” Coen said of Philadelphia. “They’re OK living in adversity.”
The Jaguars play their second consecutive London game next week, giving the team an immediate opportunity to clean up the penalty issues that have followed them through the first two weeks of their current winning streak.
