JACKSONVILLE — Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 18 of 23 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions as the Jacksonville Jaguars routed the Cleveland Browns 34-10 in their 2026 Week 1 opener at EverBank Stadium.
Lawrence, who surged into Most Valuable Player consideration during the second half of the 2025 season, threw touchdown passes to four different receivers in what Head Coach Liam Coen called “a true team win.”
“It’s good to know you have guys who are bought in and who are all together,” Coen said. “It was a ‘spread-around’ game. That’s where you can point to the standard and having confidence in each other. I have confidence in them. They have confidence in what they’re doing and hopefully it continues to carry over.”
Wide receiver Parker Washington led the receiving corps with five receptions for 83 yards, including a spectacular diving 30-yard touchdown on the Jaguars’ opening drive that gave Jacksonville a 7-0 lead. Washington, a fourth-year veteran in ongoing contract extension negotiations with the front office, made the case that his price is rising.
“He’s a baller,” Washington said of Lawrence. “It’s his second year in this offense. We are all confident in him. He knows what he is capable of and he knows he is special. He goes out there and does it each week.”
The ground game complemented Lawrence’s aerial attack. Running backs Bhayshul Tuten, Ameer Abdullah and Chris Rodriguez Jr. combined for 25 carries and 121 yards — a 4.85-yards-per-carry average — as the Jaguars totaled 126 rushing yards and 3.9 yards per carry overall. The production came without former running back Travis Etienne Jr., now with the New Orleans Saints.
“Was definitely pleased with the way Trevor ran the offense today,” Coen said.
Defensively, Jacksonville was equally dominant. Linebackers Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs combined for 13 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble, filling the void left by former linebacker Devin Lloyd, now with the Carolina Panthers. Miller’s pressure on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson led to a first-quarter interception by linebacker Foyesade Oluokun that swung momentum firmly to Jacksonville. Left tackle Anton Harrison, making his first NFL career start at the position after playing there last at the University of Oklahoma during the 2022 season, shut out Browns defensive end Jared Verse, who recorded no quarterback hits or pressures.
The Jaguars travel to Denver next Sunday to face the Broncos.
