LAS VEGAS — Second-year guard Jase Richardson scored 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting and two-way contract player Alex Morales posted a near triple-double as the Orlando Magic routed the Philadelphia 76ers 99-92 in NBA Summer League action Wednesday, improving to 3-1.
The Magic built a 28-point halftime lead and led by as much as 30, shooting 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range while holding Philadelphia to just 37 first-half points. Orlando recorded 12 steals, many of which translated directly into fast-break scoring. Despite the lopsided performance, the Magic carry only a plus-seven point differential in the final standings and will need help to crack the top four and reach the semifinals.
Richardson, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound guard chosen 25th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Michigan State, added four rebounds, four assists and three steals to his scoring line. He connected on three 3-pointers — including a side-step off-the-dribble straightaway triple — and threw down a one-handed driving dunk that highlighted his explosiveness heading into his second NBA season under new head coach Sean Sweeney.
Morales filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. He credited his offseason preparation for the expanded production.
“I think my big focus was just trying to get stronger, put on a couple pounds, and just get in a flow. I have worked a lot this summer on shooting and the weight room. I’m already a physical player, but just being able to deliver blows instead of taking them so often,” Morales said.
Noah Penda anchored the defensive effort with three blocks and one steal to go with 10 points, six rebounds and six assists. Summer league head coach D.J. Bakker has drawn praise for building defensive intensity and chemistry across the roster, with Morales and former first-round pick Keon Johnson also standing out for their rugged play on that end.
The Magic continue summer league play in Las Vegas as they chase a semifinal berth in the final standings.
