FORT LAUDERDALE — Kasper Lundell, the 22-year-old younger brother of Florida Panthers center Anton Lundell, signed a one-year contract with the Charlotte Checkers, the Panthers’ AHL affiliate, Florida Hockey Now reported.
The deal brings a second Lundell into the Panthers organization, though the contract is an AHL agreement rather than an NHL deal. Kasper Lundell would need to sign a separate contract with the Panthers if he earns a spot with the big club. He is expected to get a chance to participate in training camp with the Panthers in Fort Lauderdale in early-to-mid September.
Kasper Lundell spent his entire professional career in Finland’s SM-liiga, playing for HPK and his hometown club HIFK Helsinki. Last season, he scored three goals with seven points in 38 games. He also represented Finland internationally at the Spengler and Hlinka Gretzky cup tournaments.
NHL free agency opened July 1, and the Checkers signing is part of a broader offseason build for the Panthers. The Panthers’ rookie camp and tournament is scheduled for late August or early September, with the site still to be announced.
The Panthers open their preseason Sept. 20 against the Carolina Hurricanes and begin the 2026-27 regular season Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. at Carolina. The home opener is set for Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. against the Minnesota Wild.
