JUPITER — Eighteen-year-old Jacob Lombard homered for the third consecutive game Thursday, powering Single-A Jupiter to a 13-2 rout of Daytona in the Florida State League semifinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium and punching the Hammerheads’ ticket to the FSL championship series.
Lombard, the Miami Marlins’ No. 4 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 67 overall prospect, connected on a 1-2 cutter in the seventh inning and sent a two-run shot a projected 384 feet to right-center field at 102.5 mph off the bat, extending Jupiter’s lead to 9-2. He finished the night 1-for-5.
The long ball was Lombard’s sixth home run in just 24 career games. He went deep in the opening game of the semifinal series and in the final game of the 2026 regular season before Thursday’s blast completed the three-game streak.
The 14th overall pick in this summer’s MLB Draft, Lombard finished his first professional regular season with a .220/.343/.390 slash line across 22 games. He drove in 17 runs and hit four home runs during the regular season, though he struck out 39 times — a swing-and-miss tendency against velocity that scouts have flagged as the primary area for development in the 6-foot-3 infielder’s game.
Lombard is the younger brother of Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. Scouting reports give Jacob 50 or higher grades across the board, crediting him with the defensive tools to stay at shortstop and a bat with serious upside if he can tighten his approach.
Jupiter opens the FSL finals on Sunday against Tampa.
