FORT LAUDERDALE — Forward Luis Suárez reached 100 appearances for Inter Miami CF during Wednesday evening’s 3-2 MLS regular season victory over the Chicago Fire FC at Nu Stadium, becoming just the ninth player in club history to hit the milestone.
The Salto, Uruguay native has compiled 50 goals — second most in club history — and 35 assists across those 100 appearances since arriving ahead of the 2024 campaign. His production has placed him alongside teammate Lionel Messi as one of the most prolific attackers in the franchise’s short existence.
Suárez’s first season in South Florida set the standard. He led Inter Miami with 25 goals across all competitions in 2024, with his 20 regular season goals tying Messi for second-most among all MLS players that year. He added nine regular season assists and appeared in 37 matches, including 27 in regular season play, as the club clinched its first Supporters’ Shield title and set the MLS single-season points record.
His second year proved even busier. Suárez made 50 appearances across all competitions in 2025, recording 17 goals and 17 assists for 34 goal contributions as Inter Miami won the Eastern Conference Championship and the MLS Cup presented by Audi. The club also reached the Round of 16 at the revamped 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the semifinals of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Before joining Inter Miami, Suárez had already assembled one of the most decorated résumés in world soccer. He won a UEFA Champions League title, one FIFA Club World Cup, five LaLiga titles, one Eredivisie title, four Copa del Rey trophies, and two Uruguayan Primera División championships, among other honors. He retired as Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals and as the nation’s second most capped player with 143 appearances, having guided the team to the 2011 Conmebol Copa América title.
The striker has been the top scorer in a competition seven times, including the Eredivisie in 2009-10 with 35 goals and LaLiga in 2015-16 with 40 goals. His 31 Premier League goals in 2013-14 were a single-season record at the time and earned him one of two European Golden Shoe awards. Individual honors include Dutch Footballer of the Year, Copa América Best Player, Premier League Player of the Season, FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball, Trofeo Alfredo di Stéfano, and Bola de Ouro recognition. He has been named to the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 once, the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team once, and the UEFA Champions League Squad of the Season three times.
