MIAMI — The Marlins’ pitching rebuild took another hit when the organization announced that 21-year-old left-hander Thomas White, ranked No. 13 overall by MLB Pipeline, will likely miss the remainder of the 2026 season with an injury that carries an estimated recovery timeline of 12-16 weeks from the date of the setback.
That timeline places a possible return somewhere between mid-August and September, making a Major League debut in 2026 highly unlikely. White began the season on the injured list after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 right oblique strain, completed a pair of rehab outings for Single-A Jupiter, then rejoined Triple-A Jacksonville on April 16. In five starts with Jacksonville, he posted a 4.34 ERA and a 1.446 WHIP. His last outing came when he allowed four runs in four innings. He was placed on the injured list retroactive to May 19.
White’s absence deepens what has become a crisis in the organization’s upper-level starting-pitching depth. Fellow left-hander Robby Snelling, the Marlins’ No. 2 prospect and No. 26 overall, underwent season-ending UCL surgery last month. Right-hander Adam Mazur had the same procedure performed during Spring Training. Neither will pitch again this year.
The attrition has not stopped there. Right-handers Eury Pérez (right leg strain) and Janson Junk (right shin inflammation) both went on the 15-day injured list during the club’s recent three-city road trip, further thinning a rotation already short on healthy arms.
The Marlins did offer one piece of encouraging news: No. 8 prospect Kemp Alderman, who sustained a left elbow sprain while splitting time between first base and outfield, has a recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks from the date of his injury, putting him 1-3 weeks from a return.
