MIAMI — The Miami Heat moved up four spots in the second round of the NBA Draft, acquiring the rights to Louisville guard Ryan Conwell with the 37th overall pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Otega Oweh at No. 41 and cash considerations.
Conwell brings South Florida ties and a proven scoring résumé to the Heat. The guard split his four-year collegiate career between South Florida, Indiana State, Xavier and Louisville, starting all 34 games in which he appeared for the Cardinals last season. He averaged a team-leading 18.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.12 steals and 30.9 minutes per game.
Conwell shot 40.8 percent from the field, 34.5 percent from three-point range and 83.2 percent from the foul line during his senior year at Louisville. He finished with a single-season, career-high 638 points, ranking sixth in the ACC in scoring.
The guard led Louisville in points, rebounds, field goals made and attempted, three-point field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, defensive rebounds, steals and minutes. He finished second on the team in total rebounds and assists. Voted by teammates to serve as one of the Cardinals’ captains his senior year, Conwell earned All-ACC Second Team and NABC All-District Second Team honors.
The trade signals the Heat’s interest in adding perimeter scoring depth through a player already familiar with the region from his time at South Florida. Conwell is expected to join the Heat’s summer league roster as the organization evaluates his fit ahead of the 2026-27 season.
