MIAMI — The Miami Heat re-signed forward Simone Fontecchio, the team announced, bringing back a reliable perimeter shooter who appeared in 70 games last season and connected on a three-point field goal in a career-long 19 straight games.
Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fontecchio made nine starts last season and averaged 8.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 16.8 minutes per game while shooting 41.2 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from three-point range and a career-high 84.3 percent from the foul line.
The Italian forward’s three-point shooting proved especially consistent. His 19-game streak of hitting at least one three-pointer ran through November 23, and he made multiple threes 33 times on the season, including in six consecutive games on two separate occasions — both tying the second-longest streak of his career. He shot at least 50 percent from beyond the arc 24 times and exceeded 70 percent on seven occasions.
Fontecchio scored in double figures 29 times, including five 20-point games. He made a career-tying six three-point field goals twice — first on January 28 and again on April 10.
His foul shooting helped Miami finish with a .792 free throw percentage as a team, the fourth-highest during a single season in franchise history.
The Heat continue to shape their roster ahead of the upcoming NBA season, with training camp set to open in the fall at the team’s facility in Miami-Dade County.
