MIAMI — The Miami Heat signed four-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star Klay Thompson, the franchise announced, adding the fourth-most prolific three-point shooter in league history to a roster the organization says is built to contend for titles. Terms of the deal were not disclosed per club policy.

“Klay is one of the most iconic players to ever suit up in the NBA,” said Heat President Pat Riley. “A four-time battle tested World Champion who will fit perfectly into his role as an all-around player at both ends of the court. We all talk about his shooting skill, but there is so much more he brings to the game. We are blessed that Klay chose the HEAT in our quest to challenge for championships.”

Thompson, a two-time All-NBA and All-Defensive Team selection, arrives in Miami after appearing in 69 games — eight starts — with Dallas last season. He averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 21.7 minutes while shooting 38.3 percent from three-point range. Thompson connected on a team-leading 202 three-point field goals, with over 70 percent (202-of-286) of his made attempts coming from beyond the arc. That marked his 11th season with at least 200 made threes, the second-most 200-plus seasons in NBA history.

Off the bench in Dallas, Thompson hit 188 three-pointers, the most during a single season in Mavericks history and the second-most by any reserve in the NBA last season — second only to now-Heat teammate Tim Hardaway Jr.’s 205 made. Thompson scored in double figures 40 times, including eight 20-point games, and led Dallas in points eight times, blocks seven times and steals on six occasions.

The 13-year veteran has appeared in 934 regular season games with 822 starts across his career, averaging 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 31.4 minutes. He has shot 44.8 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from three-point range and 85.8 percent from the foul line over that span. Thompson holds the single-game record with 14 three-point field goals, set on Oct. 29, 2018, and has totaled 2,899 career three-pointers, the fourth-most in NBA history. He has appeared in the postseason in 11 of his 13 career seasons.

Thompson will wear number 11 in Miami.
