MIAMI — The Miami Heat signed guard Tre Donaldson to a two-way contract, the team announced, adding a local product from the University of Miami who averaged 16.4 points and a team-high 5.7 assists per game for the Hurricanes last season.
Donaldson appeared in 35 games with 33 starts for Miami, shooting 45.4 percent from the field, 35.9 percent from three-point range and 76.6 percent from the foul line while averaging 3.6 rebounds, 1.37 steals and 34.0 minutes per game. He earned All-ACC Second Team and All-Southeast District Second Team honors. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The guard posted nine 20-point games during his senior campaign, including a career-high 32 points against Virginia Tech on Feb. 17. He dished out double-figure assists on five occasions, connected on multiple three-point field goals 16 times and recorded multiple steals 13 times.
Donaldson brings championship experience from multiple programs before his time at the University of Miami. He helped lead Michigan to the Big Ten Tournament title as a junior and helped lead Auburn to the SEC Tournament title as a sophomore — a résumé that spans three conferences and three universities before arriving in the NBA.
The two-way contract allows Donaldson to split time between the Heat’s NBA roster and their G League affiliate. He joins a Heat organization that has built a reputation for developing undrafted and two-way players into rotation contributors at Kaseya Center.
