CHICAGO - Orlando City SC salvaged a 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field Wednesday night, a result that keeps the Lions in an automatic playoff qualification position with two regular-season games remaining.
Orlando (12-13-7, 43 points) built a two-goal lead before Chicago (15-10-7, 52 points) rallied in the second half to level the match, leaving interim head coach Martín Perelman with a complicated result to process. “I think it was a first half where we performed. The guys did a really good effort,” Perelman said. “Max [Crépeau] saved us a couple of times, which is his job. We were able to score, and then in the second half, of course, we were facing a really good team, a really good organization.”
Forward Iván Angulo opened the scoring just six minutes in, finishing from a tight angle at the near post after a combination involving U-22 initiative midfielder Luís Otávio and Antoine Griezmann. The goal was Angulo’s seventh of the 2026 MLS campaign and the 19th of his Orlando career across all competitions. Griezmann then doubled the advantage, curling a precise finish from outside the box after Otávio and defender Vinícius Nogueira combined to play him into space - Griezmann’s 15th goal across all competitions since joining Orlando City in July.
The assist on Angulo’s opener extended Griezmann’s streak to 12 consecutive MLS matches with a goal contribution, tying the club record previously set by Martín Ojeda in 2025. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has now recorded 23 goal contributions - 15 goals and eight assists - in 20 appearances across all competitions, and became the first player in MLS history to record a goal contribution in 14 of his first 16 league matches. Otávio recorded his first and second assists as a Lion on the two Orlando tallies.
Chicago halftime substitute Jonathan Bamba headed home a cross from Leonardo Barroso in the 57th minute to halve the deficit, then turned provider 12 minutes later, laying off a rebound for Maren Haile-Selassie to finish from the edge of the six-yard box and level the match. The draw extended Orlando’s club-record scoring streak to 25 matches across all competitions.
Defenders Griffin Dorsey (back) and Robin Jansson (foot) and forward Tyrese Spicer (foot) missed the match due to injuries, while midfielder Eduard Atuesta served a suspension for yellow card accumulation. Perelman made two changes to the starting lineup from the previous match against New York City FC, bringing in Otávio and Zakaria Taifi.
“We are not happy, but as well, we know how this is, how tough it’s on the road, coming to this stadium,” Perelman said. “Now it’s about looking forward, the next game, resting and preparing the next battle.”
Orlando City faces Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. ET on Apple TV to close out its two-match road trip.
