ORLANDO — Orlando City hosts Atlético de San Luis on Wednesday in the Lions’ final Leagues Cup Phase One match, needing a result to secure advancement after splitting their first two games with a 2-1 win over C.F. Monterrey and a 2-1 loss to Club León.
The match will mark the Lions’ 15th all-time meeting with Liga MX opposition across all competitions. Orlando City holds a 4W-3L-7D record against Mexican clubs entering the contest. The only prior meeting between these two sides came on Aug. 4, 2024, when the Lions earned a tiebreaker after a 1-1 draw, converting all five attempts from the penalty spot while Atlético de San Luis converted four.
Typese Spicer, the 2024 MLS SuperDraft No. 1 overall pick, enters Wednesday’s match on a tear. Spicer has totaled six goal contributions — three goals and three assists — over the Lions’ last four matches across all competitions. His four assists across all competitions are tied for third on the team, trailing only Braian Ojeda and Justin Ellis, who each have six.
Designated Player Marco Pašalić provided a boost in the Club León match, scoring the opening goal in his first start since May 15 after representing Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Pašalić met a diagonal pass from Spicer at the top of the box in the 38th minute before burying a left-footed strike into the lower right corner. The goal was his third across all competitions this season and his 18th since joining Orlando City ahead of the 2025 MLS campaign.
Midfielder Joran Gerbet added another positive development, making his first appearance of the 2026 season against Club León after recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2025 campaign. Gerbet entered in the 66th minute and has now made 24 appearances across all competitions for the Lions after featuring in 23 matches, including 14 starts, during his rookie season following his selection with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft. His lone goal contribution came on May 10, 2025, when he assisted one of Martín Ojeda’s three goals in a draw against the New England Revolution.
Several milestones loom for Orlando City players. Martín Ojeda needs three goals to tie Facundo Torres’ club record of 47 across all competitions and is five assists from matching Mauricio Pereyra’s club record of 47. Iván Angulo is one assist away from becoming the third player in club history to reach 40 assists across all competitions, and Eduard Atuesta’s next appearance will be his 50th across all competitions for the club.
Wednesday’s match at Exploria Stadium will determine whether Orlando City advances from Phase One of the 2026 Leagues Cup.
