ORLANDO — Orlando City SC opens its 2026 Leagues Cup campaign Wednesday against C.F. Monterrey, with forward Martín Ojeda three goals from tying Facundo Torres’ club record of 47 across all competitions and five assists from matching Mauricio Pereyra’s club record of 47.
The Lions enter the tournament off their deepest Leagues Cup run, having posted a 2W-0L-1D record in Phase One last year and reaching the semifinals before finishing fourth. Ojeda led Orlando City with four goals across the club’s six tournament matches in 2025, including a brace in a 5-1 win over Club Necaxa during Phase One.
Orlando City’s attack has been firing on multiple fronts heading into the competition. Tyrese Spicer has scored in consecutive matches — netting the game-winning goal against Nashville SC on July 25 and tallying a goal and an assist as a halftime substitute against Red Bull New York. His five goals across all competitions are tied with Griffin Dorsey for second most on the team, trailing only Martín Ojeda. Dorsey’s three MLS goals this year match his single-season career high, first set in 2023 and matched in 2024 with Houston Dynamo FC.
Middfielder Braian Ojeda has added a surge of his own, recording three goal contributions over the Lions’ last three matches since the MLS break for the FIFA World Cup. The Paraguayan international scored his first goal of the 2026 MLS season in Orlando City’s July 22 win over the San Jose Earthquakes and added the primary assist on Spicer’s goal against Red Bull New York. His six goal contributions this season — one goal and five assists — tie his professional career-high for a single campaign, first set in 2024 with Real Salt Lake.
C.F. Monterrey and Club León will both be first-time opponents for Orlando City. The Lions have faced Mexican opposition 12 times across all competitions, posting a 3W-2L-7D record against Liga MX clubs. Iván Angulo is one assist away from becoming the third player in club history to reach 40 assists across all competitions for Orlando City.
Orlando City hosts Club León on Aug. 8 in its second Leagues Cup group-stage match.
