FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Orlando City SC squandered a late equalizer and conceded two goals in stoppage time Saturday night, falling 4-2 to the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in a result that leaves the Lions clinging to sixth place in the Eastern Conference with eight games remaining.
Orlando City (10-12-4, 34 points) had pulled level at 2-2 in the 88th minute before New England (14-8-4, 46 points) struck in the 90th+3 and 90th+6 minutes to seal the win and extend its lead to 12 points over the Lions in the standings.
“Very frustrated, of course, with the result,” said Interim Head Coach Martín Perelman. “It was a big challenge for us today because we came here after the game on Wednesday, and facing, of course, a team who is doing well in the league, in their stadium, and that they rest during the week - a normal week; they didn’t play. The context of the game was difficult. We knew that. Taking that into account, I think we did a very big effort. We made some mistakes, especially in the first half, and then we were able to come back in the second half, compete, tie the game, and then, I think there we have some gap to improve as a team.”
New England’s Carles Gil opened the scoring with a deflected effort in the 19th minute, and Peyton Miller added a breakaway goal in the 59th minute to put the hosts up 2-0. Orlando City responded four minutes later when forward Iván Angulo slotted home after a deflection off a Justin Ellis pass, recording his fourth goal of the 2026 MLS season and his 16th all-time for the Lions across all competitions. The strike also marked Angulo’s third consecutive MLS match with a goal.
Martín Ojeda then converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute - awarded for a handball in the box - to level the match at 2-2. The goal was Ojeda’s team-leading 12th of the MLS season and his 46th across all competitions this year, leaving him one goal short of tying Facundo Torres’ club record of 47 goals across all competitions. Ojeda has recorded three goal contributions in his last four matches across all competitions.
Miller completed his brace in the 90th+3 minute before Gil added a fourth in the 90th+6 to close out the collapse. Perelman made three changes to his starting lineup from the club’s previous match, inserting Luís Otávio, Marco Pašalić and Tyrese Spicer into the XI. Defender Griffin Dorsey (back), forward Antoine Griezmann (thigh) and midfielder Braian Ojeda (foot) missed the match due to injury, while defender Iago was suspended for yellow card accumulation. The 19-year-old Ellis saw his run of consecutive matches with an assist across all competitions end at five.
“I think we grew a lot during this season in many things. We are competing. We are up there. Everybody knows how we started. I think the process of the team is there, but if something we need to improve is this. We need to close these kinds of games,” Perelman said. “I also need to recognize the effort of the players. I have to do it because it was there.”
