FORT LAUDERDALE — Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suárez reached 50 goals and 100 appearances for the club with a two-goal performance in a 3-2 victory over Chicago Fire FC at Nu Stadium, earning MLS Player of the Matchday honors for Matchdays 16 and 17.
Suárez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 27th minute and added a second in the 51st minute off a combination play with strike partner Germán Berterame. The brace gave the Uruguayan forward five goals in his past two regular-season fixtures and pushed his season total to eight goals.
The double milestones — 100 appearances and 50 goals — place Suárez firmly in Inter Miami’s record books. His 38 regular-season goals rank second in club history behind only Lionel Messi, who has scored 62. Suárez has started each of the last five games for Inter Miami and recorded at least one goal contribution in each, propelling the Herons to victories in all five matches.
The Player of the Matchday award is Suárez’s fourth, surpassing Leonardo Campana’s three for second-most in club history. Messi leads with 14. It is Suárez’s first such honor since Matchday 29 of 2024. The award is selected each matchday of the regular season through both media and fan voting conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters comprises 75 percent of the vote, while an Instagram fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent.
The victory was Inter Miami’s first game back after the FIFA World Cup break and helped the club maintain second place in the Eastern Conference while rising to second in the Supporters’ Shield standings.
