FORT LAUDERDALE — Captain Luis Suárez converted a penalty in the 81st minute to give Inter Miami CF a 1-0 road victory over CF Montréal at Stade Saputo in Montreal, Canada, extending the club’s winning streak to six consecutive matches this regular season.
The goal was Suárez’s ninth this regular season and his sixth in the last three games, a stretch of finishing that has propelled Inter Miami to 37 points on an 11W-2L-4D record. The South Florida club controlled possession at 56% to Montréal’s 44% and outshot the hosts 18-8 across 90 minutes.
The match also marked the debut of recent Marquee signing Casemiro, who started in midfield alongside Yannick Bright and Telasco Segovia. Goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo made two saves on the night, including an early denial of Hennadii Synchuk from inside the box in the 13th minute.
Inter Miami pressed throughout the first half without breaking through. The closest the club came before halftime was Segovia’s strike in the 41st minute that rattled the crossbar from outside the box. Montréal managed just one save and eight shots while committing seven fouls to Inter Miami’s 14.
The back four of Facundo Mura, Ian Fray, Micael and Sergio Reguilón held firm after Suárez’s winner, with Montréal earning five corners to Inter Miami’s six but unable to find an equalizer.
