A woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after her SUV crashed into a home along the 2900 block of Northwest 13th Street in Broward County around 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and found the woman trapped inside the vehicle suffering from a leg injury and bleeding. After being extricated from the SUV, she was rushed to Broward Health Fort Lauderdale as a trauma alert.
“We was lining up in the parking over there waiting to be called to get in the food bank line,” said Al, who witnessed the crash. The five people inside the home at the time of the collision were uninjured, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials. The impact left the residence structurally compromised and unsafe for habitation.
“I came home and I saw the car in my house,” said resident Goldie Pitts, who has lived in the home since the 1980s. Pitts described the frightening moments after discovering the crash scene. “I just hoped out the car and started running, like ‘oh my God, what happened’ because my niece was here, I didn’t know whether she was hurt or what happened. It’s nerve wracking. They speed through this neighborhood everyday like they’re on I-95.”
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residents following the structural damage to the home. Authorities have not determined whether speed was a factor in the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing. The crash occurred in a residential area where speeding has been an ongoing concern for local residents.
Broward Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No charges have been filed at this time, and officials have not released the identity of the driver involved in the incident.
