MIAMI — Three illegal aliens have pleaded guilty in separate federal cases to voting in federal elections and related offenses, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced.
“Voting in federal elections is one of the most important rights and responsibilities of American citizenship,” said U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida. “Federal law is clear: only United States citizens may vote in federal elections. These defendants admitted that they knowingly violated that law.”
The three defendants — a Brazilian, a Haitian and a Cuban national — each registered and cast ballots in federal elections despite knowing they were not U.S. citizens, according to court records. All three cases were investigated by Homeland Security Investigations Miami and HSI Fort Lauderdale, with assistance from the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Moises Lima Junior, a Brazilian national who became a lawful permanent resident on Jan. 17, 2024, registered to vote on Feb. 18, 2024, falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. He knowingly voted in a federal election on Oct. 21, 2024. Lima Junior pleaded guilty to making a false claim of citizenship in order to vote and voting by an alien on Feb. 12 and was sentenced on May 27.
Gordon Louis, a Haitian national and convicted felon, knowingly voted in the 2020 general election for federal offices, including President, Vice President and member of the House of Representatives. Louis pleaded guilty to voting by an alien and was sentenced on April 15.
Roberto Figueredo, a Cuban national whose lawful permanent resident status had been revoked and who had been ordered removed from the United States, submitted a Florida voter registration application on Jan. 29, 2020, falsely claiming citizenship and affirming he was eligible to vote. Figueredo was also a convicted felon whose voting rights had not been restored. He cast a ballot in a federal election on Oct. 1, 2020. Figueredo pleaded guilty to casting a false ballot and voting by an alien on Sept. 30, 2025, and was sentenced on Feb. 4.
“The Southern District of Florida is committed to protecting the integrity of our elections and ensuring that those who undermine public confidence in the electoral process are held accountable,” Reding Quiñones said. Acting Special Agent in Charge José R. Figueroa of HSI Miami joined the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Killoran and Timothy Farina prosecuted the cases.
Court documents are available through the Southern District of Florida under case numbers 25-cr-60254 (Lima Junior), 25-cr-20237 (Louis) and 25-cr-80094 (Figueredo).
